Taeuber-Arp Dada Marionette Figures, King or Stag — Few art objects are this playful.
An authorized IC Design edition of a 1918 design. Choose the figure: The King, The Stag.
The Design Story
Sophie Taeuber-Arp carved a whole cast of marionettes in 1918 for a Dada staging of Gozzi’s fable King Stag, seventeen figures in all. They became icons of the avant-garde. IC Design and Zurich’s design museum now remake two of them as posable figures, in an edition capped at 100 per character.
Why You’ll Love It
Few art objects are this playful. You can pose the King on his throne or standing, and the bold painted geometry looks different from every side. It is a museum piece you are allowed to touch.
Made for Real Life
Move the arms and legs gently so the wire joints stay supple, and brush off dust with something soft (our tip; no care notes are published). Pair it with Taeuber-Arp 1929 Wooden Candlestick, Bauhaus-Era Wooden Christmas Ornaments, Noguchi 1944 Plexiglas Chess Set.
