The Story

Founded in 2011 in Fort Worth, Texas, by designers Stephen and Carrie Fitzwater, Modern Lantern started with one question: why should a lamp go where the outlet is? Their answer is a patented click-out battery hidden in the base, paired with warm, efficient LEDs.

The Technology

The 12V lithium-ion pack charges away from the lamp, lasts hundreds of cycles, and can be replaced years from now. Add a spare and the light never has to go out.

Our Designer’s Pick
Line a dining table with Mini Tito or Mini Art Deco lamps instead of candles: the glow of a restaurant, at home.

Questions We Hear Most

What makes Modern Lantern different from other cordless lamps?

Most cordless lamps seal the battery inside. Modern Lantern’s patented pack clicks out of the base, so you charge the battery, not the lamp, and replace it years later instead of replacing the lamp.

Where can I use a cordless lamp?

Anywhere an outlet is missing: a floating sofa table, a hall console, a dining table, a mantel, a bookshelf, a nightstand, or a patio with the outdoor mini.

Who designs the collection?

Stephen and Carrie Fitzwater, the designers who founded Modern Lantern in Fort Worth, Texas, in 2011.

How warm is the light?

Warm white, around 2700K on the table lamps; many models dim, and the minis have a 3-way touch control.

Are any pieces handmade in America?

Yes. The ceramic lamps are artisan stoneware, hand glazed and fired in the USA and hand assembled, so each one is slightly unique.
