A café in Copenhagen, round tables, square white cloths that almost touched the floor: that was the moment John Brauer saw Illusion. Months of trials later, a single sheet of acrylic stood on its own folds. Brauer founded Essey on this kind of thinking, which he calls Symbolic Functionalism, and Illusion remains its signature piece, collected by MoDiP and sold at the MoMA Design Store.
