Man Ray Beech Wood Chess Pieces, IC Design — These are pieces you leave out on purpose.
An authorized IC Design edition of a 1920s design.
The Design Story
In the early 1920s Man Ray stripped chess of its carved horses and crowns. What was left were elementary solids, each one standing for a rank, plus one playful exception: a knight curled like the head of a violin. IC Design remakes them under license from the Man Ray Trust.
Why You’ll Love It
These are pieces you leave out on purpose. Each one is a simple, satisfying shape in your hand, and the set reads as a small modernist sculpture between games. The felt pads keep them quiet on the board.
Made for Real Life
Looking after it is simple: a soft cloth now and then, no water, and a spot out of strong sunlight. Pair it with Man Ray Chess Pieces and Board Set, Man Ray 17-Inch Wooden Chess Board, Cy Endfield 1972 Folding Travel Chess Set.
