The Design Story
Yugami means distortion in Japanese, and that is the idea here: Toyo Ito’s cocoon form for Yamagiwa, pulled gently out of round. Two layers of spun fiberglass, each made by spinning the frame while the fiberglass is laid on, give the asymmetrical shape its depth.
