Mayuhana 2 Sphere Double-Shade Pendant, Yamagiwa — It is the most classic Mayuhana shape: a soft globe of light.
Designed by Toyo Ito and made in Japan by Yamagiwa. Shades in black or white.
The Design Story
Toyo Ito designed the Mayuhana series for Yamagiwa after the cocoon, a form found in nature that makes a perfect diffuser. The Sphere is the round member of the Mayuhana 2 family, two layers of fine fiberglass strands with the bulb glowing at the center.
Why You’ll Love It
It is the most classic Mayuhana shape: a soft globe of light. The inner shell glows brighter than the outer one, so the pendant has depth even from across the room. Hang one over a table or a few at different heights in a stairwell. Black or white, it adds texture where most pendants are flat.
Made for Real Life
Give it a dry room (no bathrooms or steamy spaces), a steady, level spot and some clearance from anything flammable. We suggest a soft, dry brush once the lamp has cooled, with no water or sprays on the fiberglass. Complete the look with Mayuhana Mie Floor Lamp, Mayuhana Mie Pendant, Mayuhana 2 Oval Pendant.

Questions We Hear Most
What kind of light does the Mayuhana 2 Sphere Pendant give off?
Soft, diffused light filtered through two layers of spun fiberglass, best for ambient light rather than task light.
Who is the designer behind the Mayuhana 2 Sphere Pendant?
Toyo Ito (born 1941) is one of Japan’s most influential architects, known for light, conceptual buildings that blur the physical and the virtual; he received the Pritzker Prize in 2013.
How is the Mayuhana 2 Sphere Pendant shade made?
The frame is spun while a continuous stream of fiberglass is laid over it, building up the cocoon-like shell.
Where does the Mayuhana 2 Sphere Pendant work best?
Indoors only (IP20), above a kitchen island in a pair, over a bedside table or in a stairwell. Keep it out of bathrooms and humid spaces.
What pairs well with the Mayuhana 2 Sphere Pendant?
Other pieces from the same series: Mayuhana Mie Floor Lamp, Mayuhana Mie Pendant, Mayuhana 2 Oval Pendant.
When will my Mayuhana 2 Sphere Pendant arrive?
It leaves our warehouse within 2–3 business days of your order.
Why We Love It
Mayuhana shows what happens when an architect designs a lamp: a structure made of light and thread. Since 1923 the Tokyo company has built lighting together with architects and designers, and today it is the hands behind both the Jakobsson Lamp and the Mayuhana collection.
