PILAR Pasta Plates by Nina Thöming for blomus — Deep 8-inch stoneware plates, sold in sets of four, for pasta, soup, salad or a generous dessert.
Part of PILAR, Nina Thöming’s matte-and-glazed stoneware tableware for the German design house blomus.
The Design Story

Give the PILAR plate a taller wall and it becomes this: a low, straight-sided dish that Thöming sized for the meals that slide around on a flat plate. Thöming, born in 1984, trained as an industrial designer and works at Flöz Design in Germany, a studio blomus has relied on for many years. Her method is to study the need before drawing the answer, and PILAR is one of her best-known results, alongside the SONO bath collection.
PILAR plays one idea across the whole table: a velvety matte shell with a glossy glazed lining. The body is stoneware, cast from clay, quartz and minerals and fired hot, so it has more heft than porcelain and none of its translucency. The name is Spanish for pillar or column, a nod to shapes that stack straight and true. Colors run from Moonbeam (soft beige) and Mirage Grey (light gray with a hint of green) to Agave Green (dark and muted) and Pewter (charcoal).
Why You’ll Love It
Saucy food stays where you put it, and the upright wall gives a fork something to push against. A modest portion looks generous in it. The glazed well cleans easily, and four of them stack into a neat low column.
Made for Real Life
Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Firing and glazing leave small differences from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike. Pairs well with the plates, bowls, salad bowls.

Questions We Hear Most
What can I serve in PILAR pasta plates?
Pasta, risotto, curry, thick soups, salads or a dessert with sauce; anything that needs a little depth.
Do PILAR pasta plates match the dinner plates?
Yes. They share the same colors, matte shell and straight rim, and they nest neatly on a PILAR dinner plate.
Are PILAR pasta plates practical for children?
Yes. The upright wall keeps food on the plate and makes scooping easier.
What makes the PILAR pasta plates matte outside and glossy inside?
The glaze goes where food and drink touch, so it cleans easily; the outside is left matte for a soft, velvety look and feel.
Which interiors suit the PILAR pasta plates?
Minimalist, Scandinavian and Japandi kitchens, and any room where muted, earthy color leads.
When will my PILAR pasta plates leave the warehouse?
In-stock orders usually leave within 2–3 business days.

Why We Love It
Matte outside, glossy inside, and built to stack: PILAR is tableware reduced to what matters. From a small town in Germany’s old steel region, the Blome family has gone from bicycle parts (1921) to metal gifts (1961) to the design label blomus (2000), still family-run in its fourth generation. LoftModern is an authorized blomus retailer.
