Hexa Wastebasket Light Sky by Vallvé

Hexa Wastebasket Light Sky is a crisp hexagon in Light Sky resin: a bathroom wastebasket with an open lid, made by hand in São Paulo.

Wastebasket in Light Sky, 19 × 19 × 32.4 cm / 7½ × 7½ × 12¾ in.

The Design Story

Six sides, sharp edges and a soft Light Sky color. Vallvé builds Hexa on the hexagon and casts it in crystal resin, which gives the pieces a three-dimensional depth you notice as the light moves. Vallvé started in a rented São Paulo warehouse in 1962, when Catalan-born Josep Maria Sedó Vallvé began casting resin with metal, wood and acrylic on machines he built himself. His son Pedro Sedó took over in the 1990s, every piece is still made by hand, and Vallvé has won the Top of Mind Casa & Mercado award for bathroom boutiques since 2003.

Why You'll Love It

The hexagon gives a small object real architecture. Each piece is made and finished by hand, so it has a weight and depth that molded plastic can't match. It is part of a full Vallvé collection, so you can build a matching vanity piece by piece. And it comes from a family company that has been making bathroom pieces in Brazil since 1962.

Made for Real Life

A bathroom wastebasket with an open lid. A soft damp cloth with a drop of mild soap, then a dry microfiber cloth, keeps the resin bright. Skip scouring pads, bleach, acetone and solvents, and never put it in the dishwasher. Vallvé doesn't publish care instructions, so this is our advice.

Worth Every Penny

Used every day for five years, $650 works out to about $0.36 a day (our math), for a hand-finished piece made to be used every day.

Questions We Hear Most

What's the idea behind Vallvé's Hexa design?

It is built around a crisp hexagon in Light Sky resin. See The Design Story above for more.

Is the Hexa wastebasket made by hand?

Yes. Vallvé says its production is 100% handmade at its workshop in São Paulo, Brazil, where the company has been working with resin since 1962.

How big is the Hexa wastebasket?

19 × 19 × 32.4 cm / 7½ × 7½ × 12¾ in. Vallvé and the distributor don't publish the capacity.

Would the Hexa wastebasket make a good gift?

Yes, especially for someone finishing a new bathroom. No gift box is listed by the distributor; it ships in protective packaging and we are happy to add a gift note.

How do I keep the Hexa wastebasket looking new?

Give it a gentle wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and dry it off; keep scouring pads, acetone and the dishwasher away from the resin (our advice).

Why We Love It

Most bath accessories are an afterthought. Vallvé treats them as design objects, made by hand in resin with real depth and color, and that is exactly the kind of piece LoftModern exists to find.
