PILAR Round Platter by Nina Thöming for blomus — A 13-inch round stoneware serving plate with a low upright rim, matte outside and glazed on top.
Part of PILAR, Nina Thöming’s matte-and-glazed stoneware tableware for the German design house blomus.
The Design Story

Thöming simply enlarged the PILAR plate until it could feed a table. The proportions stay the same, so the platter stacks under the dinner plates like the base of a column. Thöming, born in 1984, trained as an industrial designer and works at Flöz Design in Germany, a studio blomus has relied on for many years. Her method is to study the need before drawing the answer, and PILAR is one of her best-known results, alongside the SONO bath collection.
PILAR plays one idea across the whole table: a velvety matte shell with a glossy glazed lining. The body is stoneware, cast from clay, quartz and minerals and fired hot, so it has more heft than porcelain and none of its translucency. The name is Spanish for pillar or column, a nod to shapes that stack straight and true. Colors run from Moonbeam (soft beige) and Mirage Grey (light gray with a hint of green) to Agave Green (dark and muted) and Pewter (charcoal).
Why You’ll Love It
It is large enough for a spread and plain enough to suit any food. The upright rim stops grapes, olives and juices from escaping. Used as a tray, it gathers small bowls of dips into one composition.
Made for Real Life
Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Firing and glazing leave small differences from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike. Pairs well with the salad bowls, plates, water jugs.

Where It Shines
It looks at home as a grazing board at an apéritif, under a tart at dessert, in the middle of a brunch table, or holding candles and a vase as a centerpiece tray.
Questions We Hear Most
Can the PILAR round platter work as a cheese board?
Yes, it makes a handsome board for cheese and charcuterie, and the rim keeps crackers and grapes from rolling off.
Is the PILAR round platter good as a centerpiece tray?
Yes. Candles, a small vase or a group of bowls look composed on it.
How many does the PILAR round platter serve?
As an appetizer spread, about six to eight people.
What makes the PILAR round platter matte outside and glossy inside?
The glaze goes where food and drink touch, so it cleans easily; the outside is left matte for a soft, velvety look and feel.
Which interiors suit the PILAR round platter?
Minimalist, Scandinavian and Japandi kitchens, and any room where muted, earthy color leads.
When will my PILAR round platter leave the warehouse?
In-stock orders usually leave within 2–3 business days.

Why We Love It
Matte outside, glossy inside, and built to stack: PILAR is tableware reduced to what matters. From a small town in Germany’s old steel region, the Blome family has gone from bicycle parts (1921) to metal gifts (1961) to the design label blomus (2000), still family-run in its fourth generation. LoftModern is an authorized blomus retailer.
