KUMI Centerpiece Platter, Japanese Style, by blomus — A 12-inch round stoneware serving plate with a raised rim and a reactive glaze.
Part of KUMI, the Japanese-inspired, reactive-glazed stoneware collection from the German design house blomus.
The Design Story
The largest KUMI plate is closer to a shallow basin: a wide circle with a deep rim, made to sit at the center of the table. KUMI is a studio blomus design, created by the brand’s own team in Sundern.
KUMI is blomus looking east. The forms are Japanese in origin and the surface comes from reactive glazing, a process that never repeats itself: the glaze reacts to oxygen in the kiln and settles into its own pattern of flecks and shading on every piece. According to blomus, the name is a Japanese word for eternal beauty. Two natural colors, dark-brown Espresso and mushroom-toned Fungi, are made to sit side by side.
Why You’ll Love It
The high rim keeps food and juices in, which makes it more forgiving than a flat platter. It works as a fruit bowl, a tray for small KUMI dishes or a base for candles. The mottled glaze gives it presence even when empty.
Made for Real Life
Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Dots, flecks and uneven tones come from the reactive glaze and differ on every piece; blomus notes that KUMI gains character with use over time. Pairs well with the sharing bowl, plates, bowls.

Questions We Hear Most
Can the KUMI centerpiece platter work as a fruit bowl?
Yes, the deep rim holds fruit well and the glaze looks good on display.
Is the KUMI centerpiece platter good for sushi?
Yes, at 11.8" it takes a full selection for the table.
What goes with the KUMI centerpiece platter?
The KUMI sharing bowl and the small KUMI plates and bowls for sauces.
Why can the KUMI centerpiece platter show specks or uneven color?
That is the reactive glaze at work. It reacts to oxygen in the kiln, so each piece comes out with its own markings.
What style of home suits the KUMI centerpiece platter?
Japandi, wabi-sabi, rustic modern and minimalist interiors, and any table built around natural, earthy tones.
When will my KUMI centerpiece platter leave the warehouse?
In-stock orders usually leave within 2–3 business days.

Why We Love It
No two pieces match exactly, and that is the point: KUMI brings wabi-sabi calm to an everyday table. From a small town in Germany’s old steel region, the Blome family has gone from bicycle parts (1921) to metal gifts (1961) to the design label blomus (2000), still family-run in its fourth generation. LoftModern is an authorized blomus retailer.
