Acquaparete Murano Glass Wall Light by Produzione Privata — a mouth-blown Murano glass shade on a slim arm that turns to send light up or down.
Designed in Milan, made by hand in Italy.
The Design Story
Michele De Lucchi, a leading figure of radical Italian design since the 1970s and a veteran of the Memphis group, founded Produzione Privata with Sibylle Kicherer in 1990 as a place to make objects with complete freedom, away from the logic of mass production. Working with artisan laboratories in glass, ceramics, wood and metal, the studio gives the hand the last word. Its glass is blown on Murano piece by piece, which is why every lamp is a sibling, never a twin.
Why You’ll Love It
It is rare for a wall light to be this flexible and this simple at once. A single blown-glass shade sits on a curved metal arm, and a turn of the glass changes everything: up for a soft ceiling glow at night, down for reading. Sanded glass keeps it calm, clear glass makes the bulb a jewel, green glass colours the light. Because every shade is mouth-blown on Murano, each one is a little different.
Made for Real Life
An electrician wires it to the wall box; the arm and plate are metal, the shade is glass, so dust it with a soft cloth and it stays bright. Pair it with the Acquatinta Murano Glass Pendant by Produzione Privata pendant, or its small cousin the Acquamiki Diamond Mini Pendant by Produzione Privata.

Questions We Hear Most
How do I switch between direct and indirect light on the Acquaparete?
Turn the glass: it rotates 180°, so the opening can face the ceiling for a wash of indirect light or the floor for a direct pool of light.
Which bulb fits the Acquaparete?
An E12 candelabra bulb, maximum 60 W.
How much wall space does the Acquaparete take?
The shade is about 12 cm across and 20 cm tall, on an 8 cm round plate; the whole light weighs 0.8 kg.
Clear, green or sanded glass: how different is the light from the Acquaparete?
Sanded glass softens everything; clear glass shows off the bulb; green glass casts a gentle colour, like light through bottle glass.
Where does the Acquaparete work best? (our styling advice)
In pairs by a bed, in a run down a hallway, or next to a bathroom mirror in a dry powder room.
Who designed the Acquaparete?
Michele De Lucchi with Alberto Nason, in 1998, as the wall companion to his Acquatinta pendant.
