The Design Story

Herkner’s smallest VAHLO bowl keeps the rounded-square outline of the plates, shrunk to a size you can hold in one hand. Herkner, one of Germany’s most celebrated designers (Maison&Objet Designer of the Year 2019, EDIDA Designer of the Year 2021), is drawn to materials, color and texture. VAHLO is his everyday tableware for blomus.

VAHLO takes the plate and the bowl and softens them into rounded squares, then finishes them in a glossy reactive glaze that freckles and shifts in the kiln. The result is tableware that feels relaxed and architectural at the same time, in two quiet colors: creamy Moonbeam and pale, green-tinged Mirage Grey.
