TR10 Pendant by Tom Rossau — an hourglass of birch that rises like a sculpture.
The closed shade hides the bulbs and glows evenly, while a little light escapes at the top and bottom openings to wash the ceiling and the floor.
The Design Story
Tom Rossau designed the TR10 in 2008 as a larger, more voluptuous version of his TR7. Its pinched waist and swelling curves come from the same simple principle: flat strips of birch, twisted and pressed until they take on a three-dimensional shape. The studio began with an experiment: Tom Rossau pressed thin strips of wood into a cylinder to see how they would bend, and the harder he pressed, the more expressive the shape became. That experiment became the TR5 in 2005, and every lamp since has followed the same idea of flat material coaxed into sculpture, built by hand in Copenhagen.
Why You’ll Love It
Scale is the thrill: in a stairwell or a double-height room the TR10 has real presence, yet the light it gives is gentle. The grain of each strip makes every lamp slightly different.
Made for Real Life
The 39.4" suits ceilings of about 10 feet or more; the 52.4" belongs in stairwells and double-height rooms (our advice). It takes two E26 bulbs. It pairs beautifully with the TR10 Floor Lamp, TR7 Pendant and TR42 Pendant.
