KUMI Tea Cup Without Handle, Wabi-Sabi, by blomus — A 6 oz handleless stoneware tea mug in the Japanese style, with a reactive glaze, sold singly.
Part of KUMI, the Japanese-inspired, reactive-glazed stoneware collection from the German design house blomus.
The Design Story
blomus calls this the characteristic tea mug of the collection. With no handle to interrupt it, the glaze wraps the whole cup. KUMI is a studio blomus design, created by the brand’s own team in Sundern.
KUMI is blomus looking east. The forms are Japanese in origin and the surface comes from reactive glazing, a process that never repeats itself: the glaze reacts to oxygen in the kiln and settles into its own pattern of flecks and shading on every piece. According to blomus, the name is a Japanese word for eternal beauty. Two natural colors, dark-brown Espresso and mushroom-toned Fungi, are made to sit side by side.
Why You’ll Love It
It makes you slow down, because you drink with two hands. It is also a handy size for a small coffee, sake or juice. With the teapot it makes a quiet, complete set.
Made for Real Life
Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Dots, flecks and uneven tones come from the reactive glaze and differ on every piece; blomus notes that KUMI gains character with use over time. Pairs well with the teapot, coffee mug, bowls.

Questions We Hear Most
Why does the KUMI tea cup have no handle?
It follows the Japanese tea tradition, where the cup is held in both hands.
Is the KUMI tea cup too hot to hold?
Let freshly boiled tea rest for a minute, as you would with any handleless cup.
How many KUMI tea cups go with the teapot?
The 1-liter KUMI teapot fills about five of these 6 fl oz cups.
Why can the KUMI tea cup show specks or uneven color?
That is the reactive glaze at work. It reacts to oxygen in the kiln, so each piece comes out with its own markings.
What style of home suits the KUMI tea cup?
Japandi, wabi-sabi, rustic modern and minimalist interiors, and any table built around natural, earthy tones.
When will my KUMI tea cup leave the warehouse?
In-stock orders usually leave within 2–3 business days.

Why We Love It
No two pieces match exactly, and that is the point: KUMI brings wabi-sabi calm to an everyday table. From a small town in Germany’s old steel region, the Blome family has gone from bicycle parts (1921) to metal gifts (1961) to the design label blomus (2000), still family-run in its fourth generation. LoftModern is an authorized blomus retailer.
