The Design Story
Matrix is a Besa design built from laser-cut and formed aluminum. The LED array sits on the concealed face behind a frosted acrylic overlay, so the light reflects off the ceiling and the square body reads as a glowing outline. Besa’s signature is the glass. American designers work with European craftsmen, every shade is made by hand, and each one is inspected in Ohio before it leaves the factory, so the small variations you see are the mark of a handmade piece, not a flaw.

How big is the Matrix?
About 12 inches L by 12 inches W by 4 inches H, so it hangs only about 4 inches below the ceiling.
Does the Matrix shine down or up?
Up: the LEDs face the ceiling behind a frosted face, so the light bounces back into the room as a soft, indirect glow with the square outlined in light.
Can I dim the Matrix?
Yes, with an ELV (electronic low-voltage) dimmer. The LED is integrated, 15W, 1,450 lumens at a warm 3000K.
Can the Matrix handle a steamy bathroom?
Yes. It is damp rated for indoor rooms, so bathroom and laundry ceilings are fine; it is not meant for outdoor porches or spots that get sprayed directly.
Do I ever change a bulb in the Matrix?
No: the LED is built in and rated for about 30,000 hours, so there is nothing to replace.
What does the Matrix need for installation?
A standard 4-inch octagonal ceiling box and an electrician: it is hardwired, not plug-in. The spec sheet is linked above.
