The Ring, a single line drawn in light

The Ring is a circle and nothing else: a plated steel band with the light built in, hanging in a continuous loop above the room. A diffuser softens the output so the ring reads as a clean line rather than a row of points.

It is offered in 24, 36 and 48 inches, in finishes that run from the warm glow of Copper, through two bronze tones, to a plain White.

The designer and the story

Filipe Lisboa began in Portugal, moved into lighting and founded Viso in 1999. The Ring is one of his designs, in the Made with Love collection, and Viso offers custom sizes and colors for architects who want the ring scaled to a particular space.

Where it works

Over a round or oval table, in the centre of a double-height stair or at the heart of an open-plan living room. The smaller ring also sits well over a kitchen island.

Who this is not for

The Ring is a single large form, so it is not a subtle accent. The LED is integrated, which suits a clean look but means the source is not user-replaceable.

What is it made of?

Viso describes a plated steel body with an included diffuser. The finishes are Copper, Hairline Bronze, Statuary Bronze and White.

What does the light look like?

A 3000K warm white spread evenly around the ring by the diffuser. The larger the ring, the higher the output, from 2400 lm at 24 inches to 3840 lm at 48 inches.

What does it pair with?

Hairline and Statuary Bronze suit dark timber, plaster and stone; White suits pale ceilings and minimalist rooms; Copper adds warmth to concrete and leather.

How should I clean it?

Our advice: wipe the plated surface with a dry or barely damp soft cloth. Viso does not publish care instructions for The Ring, so avoid abrasives.

What should I check before ordering?

Choose the diameter and finish, confirm the 106 inch overall drop against your ceiling, and ask us about custom sizes if your room is unusual.
