Storm Pendant Light by Penta

Storm is a pendant reduced to a slim metal stem and a single point of light, designed in 2017 for Penta by Bartoli Design.

It comes in 3 sizes (Mini, Medium and Large) and 4 finishes: Matt Black, Matt Gold, Matt Bronze and Glossy Chrome, with a choice of 3000K or 2700K light.

The Design Story

Penta designs and makes its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy. Storm shows how far one idea can go: a thin stem in a precious metal finish that ends in a small, glowing light source. Hung alone it reads as a single quiet line. Hung in a group at different lengths it turns into a field of sparkle, which is how Penta says the lamp was meant to be used, in public spaces as well as at home.

The Designer

Bartoli Design is the studio of Paolo and Anna Bartoli, who carry on the design work Carlo Bartoli began in 1960. The studio’s approach rests on simplicity and balance, from the first concept through product development and communication, and it also takes on architecture, exhibition, interior and urban design. It has worked with makers such as Arflex, Kartell, Kristalia and Segis. The R606Uno chair for Segis won the XXI Compasso d’Oro ADI in 2008, and the Gaia armchair for Arflex belongs to the permanent design collection of MoMA in New York. Storm is the studio’s 2017 design for Penta.

Penta designs and builds its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy, and backs them with a 2-year manufacturer guarantee from the Auralis Group. Storm’s structure is metal, finished matt in black, gold or bronze or glossy in chrome, and the light source is an integrated 4W LED.

The light sits at the very tip of a stem that is only 1.4 in (3.5 cm) across, so the pendant feels more like a drawn line than a fixture. Three stem lengths, 13, 16.5 and 18.5 in, let you build a group that steps down in height. How long are the Storm pendants?

The stem is 13 in (33 cm) on the Mini, 16.5 in (42 cm) on the Medium and 18.5 in (47 cm) on the Large, and 1.4 in (3.5 cm) across. The cable is 4 m (about 13 ft), so the drop is easy to adjust for high ceilings.

Should I choose 3000K or 2700K for Storm?

Both are warm white. 3000K gives 383 lumens and a slightly clearer light, while 2700K gives 345 lumens and a softer, more golden glow. Pick 2700K for bedrooms and dining spaces, or 3000K for kitchens and work areas.

Can Storm be dimmed?

Dimming comes from the canopy. Penta lists type B canopies for on-off, 0-10V, DALI and phase-cut control, and its installation sheets for the on-off and 0-10V 110V versions are linked on this page.

Which canopy does Storm use?

Penta’s technical sheet lists Storm for its type B canopy, including a recessed version, and for the type X bar canopy. Penta lists canopies as separate items, so please confirm the canopy with us before you order.

Can I replace the bulb in a Storm pendant?

The 4W LED is integrated into the lamp, so there is no bulb to buy or match.

Can I hang several Storm pendants together?

Yes. Penta says Storm can live alone but is designed to be used in groups. It is offered as a single element or in a cluster, and mixing the three lengths creates a stepped composition.
