The Design Story

Antoni Arola designed Moaré in 2003 around an optical effect: when two layers of mesh overlap, their textures interfere and create a shifting moiré pattern. Lit from inside, the cylinders seem to move as you walk past. The LM pairs an L shade (Ø 62 cm) with an M shade (Ø 46 cm) inside it, each in its own color.

Why You’ll Love It

It is light and graphic at once, with a texture that changes with every angle. An inner methacrylate diffuser around the three bulbs softens the glare. The polyester is tough and easy to clean, so Santa & Cole suggests it for restaurants and commercial spaces as well as homes. Choosing two colors lets you go tonal or contrasting.

Made for Real Life

It takes three E26 bulbs, sold separately (Santa & Cole recommends 11 W warm LEDs; maximum bulb height 5.1 inches). It hangs up to 300 cm on a 3 m cable from a square graphite canopy that mounts to a junction box. UL-1598 listed for dry, indoor locations. It is made to order. Wipe with a soft, smooth cloth; skip ammonia, solvents and abrasive cleaners (Santa & Cole’s care advice).
