The Design Story
GATCPAC was the group of Catalan architects, co-founded in 1929 by Josep Torres Clavé, that pushed building toward the European avant-garde. They conceived this lamp in 1931 as a machine for lighting and left it in clients’ homes as the group’s collective signature. Santa & Cole reissued it from Torres Clavé’s original plans; it is credited to the group with Josep Lluís Sert and Joan Baptista Subirana.
Why You’ll Love It
A hand-operated swivel joint lets the polished dome tilt upward for indirect light or sideways for direct reading light. At 81.5 inches it stands tall in a room, and the polished aluminium reflects everything around it. A foot dimmer is included. Santa & Cole uses low-carbon aluminium for it.
Made for Real Life
It takes one E26 bulb, sold separately (maximum bulb height 6.3 inches; use a dimmable bulb). The cord is 157.5 inches long. UL-153 listed for dry, indoor locations. It is made to order. Wipe with a soft, smooth cloth; skip ammonia, solvents and abrasive cleaners (Santa & Cole’s care advice).
