The Design Story
Miguel Milá designed FAD in 1973 for the headquarters of the Foment de les Arts i del Disseny, the Barcelona association that artisans and architects founded in 1903. He made the first prototype from four leftover pieces of wood. The cross-shaped legs, a recurring Milá motif, match the diameter of the shade’s lower edge.

There is no ornament, only noble materials and calm proportions. The slotted oak column gives a play of light and solid wood, and the white shade spreads a soft, even glow. A hand dimmer is included, so the light goes from reading to dusk in a turn. It sits as well on a writing desk as on a bedside.
Made for Real Life
It takes one E26 bulb, sold separately (maximum bulb height 4.1 inches; use a dimmable bulb). The cord is 88.6 inches long. UL-153 listed for dry, indoor locations. It is made to order. Wipe with a soft, smooth cloth; skip ammonia, solvents and abrasive cleaners (Santa & Cole’s care advice).
