Roma is a slim cylindrical wall light with honed alabaster at both ends, made by CTO Lighting of London. It comes in a short version, 7.1 in high, and a tall version, 10.6 in high, and it lights up and down.

It comes in 2 finishes: Satin Brass and Bronze, each with honed alabaster.

The Design Story

Roma takes its inspiration from the great architectural forums and churches of Ancient Rome, and CTO draws a line from the vast Roman windows, where alabaster stone cast a soft, ethereal glow across the floor, to these lights. The design celebrates simplicity of line and form and shows off the noble quality of its materials.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO assembles every light to order in England. The metalwork is finished in satin brass or bronze, and each light carries honed alabaster, cut from natural stone, so the veining is different from piece to piece.

The Finishes

Satin Brass. Warm golden tones and a brushed, satin surface give a soft sheen that feels luxurious but understated. CTO selects the metal for its durability and beauty.

Bronze. Deep, rich color and a robust build bring a touch of historical weight to a modern room, with a warm, inviting glow.

Honed Alabaster. Every piece is cut from natural stone, prized for its soft, diffused light. The veining occurs naturally, so no two are alike, from almost white to grey-veined.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V version has an integrated 9W LED at 2700K, dimmable with a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer, with no separate driver. It is IP20 for dry indoor rooms: CTO's IP44 version is 220-240V only. The Short weighs 4.4 lb and the Tall 5.5 lb. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp cloth for marks. Skip detergents and abrasives.

Questions We Hear Most

Is Roma Wall dimmable?

Yes. CTO lists the 110-130V version as dimmable on a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer. DALI is listed only for 220-240V.

What is the difference between Short and Tall?

Both are 2.1 in (54 mm) wide and 3.3 in (85 mm) deep. The Short is 7.1 in (180 mm) high and the Tall is 10.6 in (270 mm) high, and the Tall weighs 5.5 lb against 4.4 lb.

What light source does it use?

An integrated 9W LED at 2700K. It is built in, so there is no bulb to buy, and no separate driver is needed.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

CTO makes an IP44 Roma Wall for bathrooms, but only for 220-240V. The 110-130V version is IP20, so keep it out of wet zones and ask your electrician about placement.

How does it mount?

It fixes to a small rectangular wall box, 1.4 x 3.0 in (35 x 75 mm). CTO's data sheet shows a North American junction box cover, so ask your electrician to confirm the box.

Is every alabaster piece the same?

No. Alabaster is natural stone, so the veining and tone vary from piece to piece.

How do I clean it?

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If a mark remains, use a slightly damp lint-free cloth, then dry it with a soft dry one. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners on metal, glass and alabaster.
