The horizontal Roest takes the collection's slim steel tube and lays it flat, turning a single rust-toned line into a linear LED pendant with real presence. Designed by VanJoost for Graypants and hand-made in Holland, it spans a dining table, a kitchen island or a counter with one clean gesture.
Choose the 75H (29.5 in, 75 cm) for a table or island, or the 150H (59 in, 150 cm) for a long run, in Rust, Zinc or Carbon. Both are made to order in about 2 weeks.
The Design Story
VanJoost built the Roest collection on a simple premise: iron, oxygen, water and time will make a better finish than paint. Graypants presents the series as unpretentious simplicity with natural colours placed in unusual settings, and the name is the Dutch word for rust.
The linear versions extend that thinking from small accents to architectural scale. Graypants is a Seattle company founded by architects Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, with studios in Seattle and Amsterdam, and its Roest work includes a custom installation for the 2021 TOMO project near Seattle.
How It Is Made
The body is a steel tube that is left to oxidize naturally, then treated so the finish stops developing and will not rub off or stain. A black powder-coated steel canopy and a black cord complete the fixture.
Inside, the horizontal version carries an integrated LED rather than a replaceable bulb, so there is no lamp to buy and no socket to see. The light is 2700K warm white with a CRI of 90, and a 0-10V driver lets you dim down to 1% with a compatible dimmer.
Why You'll Love It
A linear pendant solves a problem that clusters of small shades cannot: it lights a long surface evenly while staying visually quiet. At 2.375 in (6 cm) thick, the tube reads as a line drawn over the table instead of a fixture hung above it.
Rust, Zinc and Carbon each give the tube a different personality, and because the finish develops naturally, no two tubes match exactly. That quiet variation suits the handmade feel of the collection.
Made for Real Life
The 75H puts out 900 lumens and the 150H 1,800 lumens, enough to serve as primary light over an island or table. The standard black cord is 10 ft (3 m), and a longer 20 ft (6 m) cord and custom canopies are available on request. Graypants notes that the fixture hangs from aircraft cable on a 1/4-20 anchor, which is not included, so plan the ceiling attachment with your electrician. It is UL certified and rated for dry locations only.

Handmade for You
Each linear Roest is made to order, which is why every order is final sale. It also means we are glad to help you pick a length, finish and mounting plan before you commit. You are commissioning a hand-made steel fixture from Holland, not choosing from a warehouse shelf.
Designer lighting does not have to mean a designer budget: Graypants builds its pieces to be affordable and to last, and the linear Roest carries that idea into larger spaces.
Not the Right Fit If
The horizontal Roest is a made-to-order fixture, so it is not for projects that need lighting within days. It is rated for dry, indoor locations only, it needs a ceiling anchor that you supply, and its natural finish will vary slightly from tube to tube.
Questions We Hear Most
Should I choose the 75H or the 150H?
The 75H is 29.5 in (75 cm) long and suits a four-seat table, a short island or a console. The 150H is 59 in (150 cm) long and is better for a long dining table, a bar or a wide island. Many designers size the pendant to about two-thirds of the table length.
Is the LED replaceable, and is a bulb included?
The LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to buy or change. The light is 2700K warm white with a CRI of 90, delivering 900 lumens on the 75H and 1,800 lumens on the 150H.
How do I dim the Roest linear pendant?
The 30W driver accepts 0-10V dimming down to 1%, so you will need a 0-10V compatible dimmer. The instructions show two dimming leads, gray and purple, for that connection.
How is it hung from the ceiling?
Graypants shows the fixture suspended on aircraft cable from a 1/4-20 anchor. The anchor is not included, so have your electrician choose hardware that suits your ceiling. Leave at least 12 in (31 cm) of clearance between the lamp and the canopy.
What is the difference between Rust, Zinc and Carbon?
All three are applied to the same steel tube, and each is treated after finishing to stop further rusting so it will not come off or stain. Rust is the oxidized iron look the collection takes its name from; Zinc and Carbon are the alternatives if you prefer a different tone.
How long will it take to arrive?
The horizontal Roest is made to order, with a lead time of about 2 weeks.
Can I use it outdoors or in a damp bathroom?
No. Roest is rated for dry locations only and belongs in indoor spaces such as dining rooms, kitchens and offices.
Why We Love It
The horizontal Roest proves that a light can be almost nothing and still change a room: one slim tube of oxidized steel, glowing evenly, made by hand in Holland.
