Pascal is a floor lamp made of two overturned cones in lacquered aluminum, designed in 1983 by Vico Magistretti for Oluce.
It comes in one finish: anodic bronze.
The Design Story
Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, describes Pascal as a floor lamp that captures Vico Magistretti’s progressive aesthetic, with a sense of geometry that follows no strict rules. Two overturned cones are stacked on a slim stem. The upper cone holds an LED circuit and the lower cone holds two bulbs, and the inclined walls of the lower cone work as reflectors that spread the light. Each cone has its own switch, so the lamp can serve as an ambient floor light or as a reading light.
The Designers
Vico Magistretti (1920 to 2006) was born and died in Milan. He earned his architecture degree in 1945 and joined his father’s firm. During the war he met Gio Ponti and Ernesto N. Rogers, and after the war he worked on reconstruction projects. His architecture includes the Torre al Parco and the Faculty of Biology in Milan, and he also designed furniture and lamps for companies such as Cassina, Artemide, De Padova, Fritz Hansen and Kartell. For Oluce he designed the Atollo, Lyndon, Pascal and Sonora lamps. He taught as a visiting professor at the Royal College of Art in London.

How It Was Made
Pascal is made of lacquered aluminum with a lacquered metal base. The upper cone carries a 24W LED, and the lower cone carries two bulbs of up to 100W each, which makes the lamp a double light with two independent circuits.

Why You’ll Love It
Pascal is a sculptural floor lamp that looks the same from every side. The two cones read as a clean shape in the room, and the two circuits let you choose between a soft reflected glow and a direct reading light.
Made for Real Life
The upper cone uses a 24W LED rated at 2700K and the lower cone takes two E26 bulbs of up to 100W each. The bulbs for the lower cone are not included. The lamp is not dimmable and is listed as CE rated. Wipe the aluminum with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth and avoid abrasive or solvent cleaners.
