Lucid is a dome of honed alabaster hung from slim, engineered metalwork, designed by Michaël Verheyden for CTO Lighting of London. The LED glows from beneath the stone and lights the natural veining.
It comes in 2 sizes and 4 finishes: Antique Bronze, Bronze, Satin Brass and Silvered Oxidised Brass, each with honed alabaster.
The Design Story
Michaël Verheyden drew Lucid from two memories: the glass globes of Parisian brasseries and the quiet interior of a snow dome. The result is both useful and sculptural. A single piece of honed alabaster does the work of the shade, and its warm, even glow shows off the stone’s natural veining, so no two domes look quite alike.
The Designer: Michaël Verheyden
Michaël Verheyden is an internationally acclaimed Belgian designer who joins the long tradition of Flemish design and expert workmanship with elemental forms. His work celebrates rich, natural materials such as wood, marble, leather and bronze, and pairs archetypal, architectural geometry with warmth. He has won the Henry Van de Velde award for talented young designers and received the Wallpaper design award three times, and Wallpaper named him to its 2016 Powerlist of the world’s most influential designers. He also designed CTO’s Heron collection.
The Story of CTO Lighting
Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.
How It Was Made
CTO assembles every light to order. For the silvered finish, CTO worked with a small silversmith to experiment with new surfaces and arrived at a textured finish that layers brass, silver and oxidised silver. The alabaster is honed, so the surface feels soft and the light passes through evenly.
The Four Finishes
Satin Brass. Warm golden tones and a brushed, satin surface give a soft sheen that feels luxurious but understated. CTO selects the metal for its durability and beauty.
Bronze. Deep, rich color and a robust build bring a touch of historical weight to a modern room, with a warm, inviting glow against the stone.
Antique Bronze. Rich, deep tones with a natural patina. Each fixture shows the character of the material and the hand of the British artisans who finish it.
Silvered Oxidised Brass. A dual-tone surface with a nuanced patina that adds texture and depth. It is the most expressive of the four and the finish CTO developed with a small silversmith.
Honed Alabaster. Every dome is cut from natural stone, prized for its soft, diffused light. Its veining occurs naturally, so each pendant is unique.
Why You’ll Love It
Lucid has the calm of a good restaurant light: warm 2700K light, dimmable, and a dome that looks as good switched off as lit. Hang one low over a console, or hang three in a row over an island, dining table or bar. The 300 is the larger statement, and mixing sizes and finishes in a cluster gives a more composed, gallery-like look.
Made for Real Life
The 110-130V version is built for US homes with a standard E12 or E26 LED bulb, dimmer compatibility and a 39.4 in drop rod you can shorten on site. Dust with a soft dry cloth and use a lightly damp cloth for marks. Skip detergents and abrasives on alabaster and metal.
Sizes in Inches: What 200 and 300 Mean
CTO names its sizes by body width in millimetres. Lucid 200 is 200 mm wide (7.9 in) and Lucid 300 is 300 mm wide (11.8 in). The diagram is in the photo gallery.
| Size | Lucid 200 | Lucid 300 |
|---|---|---|
| Body width | 7.9 in (200 mm) | 11.8 in (300 mm) |
| Body height | 7.9 in (200 mm) | 11 in (280 mm) |
| Minimum overall drop | 9.8 in (250 mm) | 13 in (330 mm) |
| Weight | 11 lb (5 kg) | 22 lb (10 kg) |
| Bulb (US) | 1 x E12, 6.5W LED | 1 x E26, 8W LED |

Questions We Hear Most
What do Lucid 200 and Lucid 300 mean?
CTO names the sizes by body width in millimetres. Lucid 200 is 7.9 in (200 mm) wide and 7.9 in high. Lucid 300 is 11.8 in (300 mm) wide and 11 in high. Both hang from a 39.4 in (1000 mm) drop rod that is adjustable on site.
Is the Lucid pendant dimmable?
Yes. CTO specifies a dimmable LED bulb with a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer, which lets you soften the glow of the alabaster.
What bulb does it use in the US?
The 110-130V version takes one LED bulb only: an E12 at 6.5W, 2700K for the Lucid 200, or an E26 at 8W, 2700K for the Lucid 300.
How heavy is it, and can my ceiling hold it?
The Lucid 200 weighs 11 lb (5 kg) and the Lucid 300 weighs 22 lb (10 kg). CTO asks you to confirm the ceiling structure can support that weight before installing.
How do I clean the alabaster and metal?
Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If a mark remains, use a slightly damp lint-free cloth, then dry it with a soft dry one. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners on alabaster and metal.
Can I hang several Lucid pendants together?
Yes. CTO suggests groups of three over a kitchen island, dining table or bar, and clusters that mix sizes and finishes for a more sculptural look.
Who designed the Lucid pendant?
Michaël Verheyden designed it for CTO Lighting, inspired by Parisian brasseries and snow domes. CTO builds it in honed alabaster with bronze, satin brass or silvered oxidised brass metalwork.
Why We Love It
Lucid pairs the quality CTO is known for with a quiet idea: a stone that glows. It is serious about materials and light and never shouts, which is why it works as a single pendant or in a cluster.
