The Design Story

Miyake, who founded his studio in Japan in 2005 after training at Tama Art University and working in Britain, designs by subtraction. For the brandy glass he widened the KOYOI bowl so the aroma of a cognac can open up, and kept the heavy, ice-like pedestal that defines the series.

KOYOI is Japanese for “this evening.” Each glass is mouth-blown, the rim is cut and polished, and the blomus logo is cast into the glass with sand.
