The Story Behind Toulemonde Bochart

Toulemonde Bochart is a Parisian rug house that works with a circle of French designers, architects and artists, with craftsmanship perpetuated since 1949. Each rug is drawn in Paris and then made by hand, so the design comes first and the craft carries it out with care. Every rug is certified by GoodWeave, an international certification founded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi. It guarantees that no child labor is used in the production chain and supports social and educational programs in the regions where the rugs are made.

Kea was created by the Toulemonde Bochart studio in Paris, the house’s own design team, which draws and develops each rug before it is made by hand.

The Design Story

Kea takes its cue from Cycladic architecture. The Toulemonde Bochart studio turned the geometry of the Greek islands into colored segments placed by a precise mathematical logic, which gives the controlled irregularity of whitewashed facades under a bright sky.

The sunny multicolor palette feels modern and lightly Mediterranean, a graphic rug that stays refined.

How It’s Made

Kea is hand-tufted in wool. Each colored area is worked individually and at varying densities, which builds the relief that brings the geometry to life.

The maker uses European wool, dyed in small batches so each shade stays accurate, with pigments of natural origin. Toulemonde Bochart rugs are designed in Paris and certified GoodWeave.
