Jules is a pendant of cast bronze pyramid sections topped by a blown, acid-etched opal glass oval, made by CTO Lighting of London. It is 21.7 in square and comes in a short version with 2 bronze elements and a tall version with 4, each with or without an adjustable drop rod.

It comes in one finish: cast bronze with matt opal glass.

The Design Story

The Jules pendant is named after the Belgian architect Jules Wabbes. It borrows the reductive forms and simple lines of his furniture and interiors and gives them a modern look in precious materials: textured bronze beside soft glass.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO assembles every light to order. Each pyramid-shaped section is poured and cast by CTO's artisans in the UK, then assembled to the height you choose. The textured bronze is antiqued to bring out its linear texture. The shade is blown glass, acid-etched to a matt opal finish, and it diffuses the light into CTO's soft glow.

Cast Bronze. Each pyramid-shaped section is poured and cast in bronze by CTO's artisans in the UK, then antiqued so the texture of the metal reads clearly.

Matt Opal Glass. Blown glass, acid-etched to a matt finish. It is soft and translucent, diffuses the light evenly and hides the bulb.

Why You’ll Love It

Jules sets a strong, sculptural silhouette against a soft light. The cast bronze reads as a column and the glass as a glowing oval, which suits a dining table, a hall or the side of a bed.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V version takes one E26 bulb of up to 60W, or an 8W LED at 2700K, and is trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmable with a suitable bulb. It weighs between 26.5 lb and 33 lb, so the ceiling fixing must carry the weight. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp cloth for marks. Skip detergents and abrasives on the glass and the bronze.

Questions We Hear Most

Is Jules dimmable?

Yes. CTO lists the 110-130V version as trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmable, so choose a dimmable bulb. DALI is listed only for 220-240V.

What do Short, Tall and the drop rod mean?

Short has 2 cast bronze elements and is 20.5 in (520 mm) high. Tall has 4 elements and is 32.3 in (820 mm) high. The drop-rod versions, called Vault by CTO, hang from an adjustable rod so you can set the drop, and the plain versions hang at a fixed length.

How far does it hang?

The plain Short hangs at 21.7 in (550 mm) overall and the plain Tall at 32.3 in (820 mm). With a drop rod, the minimum is 23.6 in (600 mm) for the Short and 35.4 in (900 mm) for the Tall, and CTO can supply the Tall up to 151.6 in (3850 mm) on request.

How heavy is it?

The Short weighs 26.5 lb (12 kg), or 33 lb (15 kg) with a drop rod. The Tall weighs 30.9 lb (14 kg) with or without a drop rod. Plan for a ceiling fixing that can carry it.

How do I clean it?

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp lint-free cloth for marks. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners on the glass and the bronze.
