The Linear Series is credited to designer Xiu Xiu on the Graypants site, and it marks a shift for Scraplights toward warm, down-lit fixtures with soft, organic silhouettes that echo the gentleness of the light itself. Scraplights is the flagship line of Graypants, founded by Seattle architects Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker and working today from studios in Seattle and Amsterdam. Disc 48 Linear is designed in Seattle, Washington. Grizzle describes the studio’s way of working as "a high-tech, low-tech scenario": computers and laser cutters shape the rings, and hands assemble the finished fixture.

The line has a track record in real rooms: Graypants lists Scraplights among its projects at Pablo Y Pablo in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood and at Ancestry in Salt Lake City. Disc 48 Linear brings that same studio standard to a home.

How It Is Made

Each shade starts as corrugated cardboard, cut precisely in layers. Natural and Blonde are laser-cut, which leaves a faint burn along the edges that reads as a warm patina. White is knife-cut, so the edges stay clean and bright. The layers are assembled by hand with non-toxic adhesive and treated with a non-toxic fire retardant. A powder-coated canopy finishes the ceiling end.

How does Disc 48 differ from Drop 48 and Oliv 48?

All three share the same light engine and 48-inch scale. Disc is the widest and lowest at 12.5 in wide and 6.5 in high. Drop is taller at 10.5 in high and 7.75 in wide, and Oliv is the slimmest and lightest at 7.25 in wide and 4 lb.

What is the difference between Natural, Blonde and White?

Natural and Blonde are laser-cut and keep a subtle burned edge, with Blonde the lighter cardboard tone. White is knife-cut for clean white edges and a brighter look.

What comes with it, and which canopy color will I get?

The LED, driver, canopy and 10 ft cord are included, so there is no bulb to buy. Graypants makes the canopy and cord in black or white. Tell us your preference when you order and our team will confirm it with you.

Can I dim it?

Yes. It dims on 0-10V, down to 1%, so it needs a compatible 0-10V dimmer. A standard wall dimmer will not control it.

How long will it take to arrive?

Disc 48 Linear is made to order, with a lead time of about 4 weeks in every finish.

What should I know about installation?

Graypants advises hiring a licensed electrician, turning the power off and confirming it with a voltmeter, and checking for hidden wires before drilling. You will need a ceiling anchor, which is not included. Keep at least 12 in (31 cm) between the lamp and the canopy, and keep the fixture out of direct sunlight.

How do I clean it?

Use a dry duster or compressed air. Keep moisture away, since it is rated for dry locations only.
