The Design Story

CTO named Cloudesley after the street where the company has its home, a road of Georgian opulence in London. The chandelier reflects that grand era with repeated oval forms: when it is lit, the glass globes build a soft, cloud-like shape. The curves give a calm, relaxed feel, and the round form hangs well above a round table.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO machines the brass frame and suspends the opal glass shades in tiers, then finishes the metal in satin brass or bronze. Each Cloudesley is assembled to order in England.

The Finishes

Satin Brass. Warm golden tones and a brushed, satin surface give a soft sheen that feels luxurious but understated. CTO selects the metal for its durability and beauty.

Bronze. Deep, rich color and a robust build bring a touch of historical weight to a modern room, with a warm, inviting glow.

Matt Opal Glass. The globes are opal glass with a matt surface, which spreads the light evenly and keeps the glow soft.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V version takes standard E26 bulbs (60W maximum each, or 8W LED at 2700K) and needs a dimmable bulb with a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer to dim. The small weighs 24.3 lb, the medium 44.1 lb and the large 90.4 lb, and CTO asks you to check that the ceiling can carry it. It is IP20 for dry indoor rooms and hangs from a 39.4 in drop rod you can shorten on site. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Skip detergents and abrasives.

Is the Cloudesley chandelier dimmable?

Yes, with dimmable bulbs. CTO lists a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer for the 110-130V version.

How many bulbs does it take?

The small takes four E26 bulbs, the medium seven and the large sixteen. Each is rated 60W maximum, or 8W LED at 2700K.

Which size should I choose?

The small (33.5 in) and medium (36.2 in) hang above a round table or in a bedroom or living area. The large (51.2 in) suits a double-height room or a big table.

How far does it hang?

CTO supplies a 39.4 in (1000 mm) drop rod that you adjust on site. The minimum overall drop is 19.5 in (495 mm) for the small and medium and 26.4 in (670 mm) for the large.

How heavy is it?

The small weighs 24.3 lb (11 kg), the medium 44.1 lb (20 kg) and the large 90.4 lb (41 kg). CTO notes that the ceiling structure must be able to carry it.

How do I clean it?

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If a mark remains, use a slightly damp lint-free cloth, then dry it with a soft dry one. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners.
