The Chrona Dish Vertical Pendant is a spun-brass disc that stands upright and glows. A diffused acrylic panel turns a hidden LED into an even, soft light, much like the faint halo that surrounds a star. Designed in Seattle by Graypants, it comes in three sizes: 6, 10 and 17 in across.

Each pendant is made to order in about 2 weeks, in a warm brass finish that deepens with time.

The Design Story

Graypants describes Chrona as light with the quality of the phosphorescent envelope that surrounds stars, and the dish shape keeps the source out of sight so you see only the glow. The collection was designed in Seattle by Graypants.

Graypants was founded in Seattle by architects Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker. Chrona pendants have been used in restaurants and hospitality interiors, including the Plum Bistro on Capitol Hill in Seattle and the reception of the Sobec Camping resort in Slovenia.

How It Is Made

The body is spun brass, shaped by pressing sheet metal against a rotating form, which gives the dish its smooth, seamless curve. The face is a diffused acrylic panel that spreads the light evenly with no visible hot spot.

Inside is an integrated LED at 2700K warm white with a CRI of 90. A 25W driver accepts 110 to 277V and dims with a 0-10V dimmer down to 10%.

Made for Real Life

The black cord is 9.5 ft (2.9 m) long, and the canopy is 5.1 in (13 cm) in diameter and 1.6 in (4 cm) high. Custom cords and canopies are available on request. Chrona is UL certified, fire retardant and rated for dry locations. Brass will tarnish over time: use a polishing cloth to remove tarnish, seal with wax as needed, and avoid aggressive detergents. Leave at least 12 in (31 cm) between the lamp and the canopy during installation, keep the protective wrapping on until the fixture is hung, and have a licensed electrician handle the wiring.

Which size should I choose?

The 6 in suits clusters and tight spaces, the 10 in works over a counter, console or bedside, and the 17 in is large enough to be the single feature over a table or entry.

Is the LED replaceable?

The LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to buy. The light is 2700K warm white with a CRI of 90, producing 150 lumens on the 6 in, 300 on the 10 in and 500 on the 17 in.

How do I dim it?

The 25W driver accepts 0-10V dimming down to 10%, so you need a compatible 0-10V dimmer. The dimming leads are gray (dim-) and purple (dim+).

Will the brass tarnish?

Yes, brass darkens naturally over time. Polish it and finish with wax to restore the shine, or leave it to develop its own patina.

How does it differ from the horizontal Chrona dish?

The vertical dish is a slim disc only 2 to 3 in deep, while the horizontal dish is 7 to 11 in tall. Both use the same spun brass, diffused acrylic and 2700K LED.

How long will it take to arrive?

The Chrona Dish Vertical is made to order, with a lead time of about 2 weeks.

Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. Chrona is rated for dry locations only and belongs indoors in spaces such as dining rooms, bedrooms and offices.
