Chestnut, plates of champagne metal that double as wall art
Chestnut is a cluster of champagne metal plates that each hold a light. Mounted on a wall they read as a metallic relief; on a ceiling they become a faceted constellation. Each plate can be angled on its own, so the cluster throws light where you want it.
Clusters of 4, 6, 9 and 11 plates give a range from a modest feature to a major installation.
The designer and the story
Chestnut was designed by Viso Design Studio, the in-house team at the company Filipe Lisboa founded in 1999. Viso describes it as a metal fixture with a champagne finish that can be installed on a ceiling, as a wall sconce, or used as decorative art.

Where it works
A stair wall, a restaurant ceiling, a lobby feature wall, or a double-height space where lighting should stand in for art.
Who this is not for
Chestnut is a large installation piece that needs a wiring plan, not an off-the-shelf swap for a ceiling fixture.
Questions, answered
What inspired Chestnut?
Viso presents it as a light that can also act as decorative art, with plates angled individually to shape the light.
What are the plates made of?
Metal with a champagne finish, with a white diffuser included.
What is the light like?
Each plate carries a 12 W LED at 3000K, a warm white that bounces softly off the wall or ceiling.
How do I arrange the plates?
Angle the plates to create a gentle fan, or aim them uniformly for a calm, regular look.
How should I clean it?
Our advice: let it cool and wipe plates with a soft dry cloth. Viso does not publish care instructions for Chestnut.
What should I check before ordering?
The cluster size and dimension, J-box locations, and whether you need a pipe kit.
