Avalon Halo pairs two alabaster rings in one tiered chandelier, made by CTO Lighting of London. It comes in 2 sizes: the Halo, with rings of 39.8 in and 25.2 in, and the Halo X-Large, with rings of 51.2 in and 39.8 in. It is made for a dining room, a stairwell or a double-height hall.

It comes in 3 finishes: Antique Bronze, Bronze and Satin Brass, each with honed alabaster, and 2 canopy options: a ceiling plate or a ceiling rose.

The Design Story

Avalon takes its name from the legendary island. CTO imagined cascades of light from a ring of alabaster held in brass or bronze, and hung it from minimal stainless-steel cables so that it seems to hover. The honed alabaster cylinders give off an ambient, ethereal glow, and the design balances contemporary and classic.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO assembles every light to order. The alabaster is mined in Zaragoza, Spain, and cut and honed by hand, so the veining of every cylinder is its own. It is held in a solid ring of bronze, antique bronze or satin brass. Integrated LEDs light the stone, and stainless-steel cables hold the ring.

Antique Bronze. Rich, deep tones with a natural patina. Each fixture shows the character of the material and the hand of the British artisans who finish it.

Bronze. Deep, rich color and a robust build bring a touch of historical weight to a modern room, with a warm, inviting glow.

Satin Brass. Warm golden tones and a brushed, satin surface give a soft sheen that feels luxurious but understated. CTO selects the metal for its durability and beauty.

Honed Alabaster. Every piece is cut from natural stone, prized for its soft, diffused light. The veining occurs naturally, so no two are alike, from almost white to grey-veined.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V versions have integrated LEDs at 2700K, with two drivers: 38W + 67W in the Halo and 67W + 89W in the Halo X-Large, dimmable with a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer. They are very heavy, at 110.2 lb for the Halo and 165.3 lb with the plate or 167.6 lb with the rose for the Halo X-Large, so the ceiling fixing must be rated for the load. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp cloth for marks. Skip detergents and abrasives on the alabaster and the metal.

Questions We Hear Most

Is Avalon Halo dimmable?

Yes. CTO lists trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimming as standard. DALI is listed only for 220-240V, and 0-10V control is available on request.

What is the difference between the Halo and the Halo X-Large?

The Halo has a 39.8 in (1010 mm) ring over a 25.2 in (640 mm) ring. The Halo X-Large has a 51.2 in (1300 mm) ring over a 39.8 in (1010 mm) ring. Each ring is 2.8 in (70 mm) high.

How far does it hang?

It comes with six 98.4 in (2500 mm) stainless-steel cables, adjustable on site. The minimum overall drop with the plate is 23.5 in (598 mm) for the Halo and 30.9 in (785 mm) for the Halo X-Large. With the rose it is 25.7 in (653 mm) and 33.1 in (840 mm). A longer drop is available on request.

What is the difference between the ceiling plate and the ceiling rose?

They are the two canopy options for the same light. The plate is a round 6.3 in (160 mm) mounting plate, only 0.4 in (10 mm) deep, and the two LED drivers sit in the ceiling cavity, up to 65.6 ft (20 m) from the light. The rose is a round 9.4 in (240 mm) canopy, 2.6 in (65 mm) deep, and holds the drivers itself. The light itself is the same.

How heavy is it?

The Halo weighs 110.2 lb (50 kg). The Halo X-Large weighs 165.3 lb (75 kg) with the plate and 167.6 lb (76 kg) with the rose. Plan for a ceiling fixing that can carry it.

Is every alabaster piece the same?

No. Alabaster is natural stone mined in Zaragoza, Spain, so the veining and tone vary from piece to piece, from almost white to grey-veined.

How do I clean it?

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp lint-free cloth for marks. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners on the alabaster and the metal.
