The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO assembles every Artes light to order in England. A slim bar in antique bronze, bronze or satin brass holds a diffuser of honed alabaster, and the integrated LED lights the stone.

The Finishes

Antique Bronze. Rich, deep tones with a natural patina. Each fixture shows the character of the material and the hand of the British artisans who finish it.

Bronze. Deep, rich color and a robust build bring a touch of historical weight to a modern room, with a warm, inviting glow.

Satin Brass. Warm golden tones and a brushed, satin surface give a soft sheen that feels luxurious but understated. CTO selects the metal for its durability and beauty.

Satin Brass Details. Satin brass detailing contrasts with the bronzed metalwork and adds a warm, golden accent.

Honed Alabaster. Every piece is cut from natural stone, prized for its soft, diffused light. The veining occurs naturally, so no two are alike, from almost white to grey-veined.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V versions have integrated LEDs at 2700K: 8W in the Artes 300, 16W in the 600, 24W in the 900 and 32W in the 1200. They dim with a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer. They weigh 4.4 lb, 8.8 lb, 13.2 lb and 17.6 lb, and CTO asks you to check that the wall can carry the load. All are IP20 for dry indoor rooms. CTO's IP44 versions are 220-240V only. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp cloth for marks. Skip detergents and abrasives on the alabaster and the metal.

Questions We Hear Most

Is Artes Wall dimmable?

Yes. CTO lists trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimming as standard for the 110-130V version. DALI is listed only for 220-240V, and 0-10V control is available on request.

What do the numbers in the sizes mean?

They are CTO's nominal lengths in millimeters. The bars are 12.6 in (320 mm), 24 in (610 mm), 35.4 in (900 mm) and 46.9 in (1190 mm) high, and each is 1.8 in (45 mm) wide and 3.5 in (90 mm) deep.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

The 110-130V version is IP20, which is for dry indoor rooms. CTO's IP44 versions are 220-240V only. Keep this version out of wet zones and ask your electrician about placement.

What light source does it use?

It has an integrated LED at 2700K: 8W, 16W, 24W or 32W depending on length. There is no bulb to change.

How heavy is it?

The Artes 300 weighs 4.4 lb (2 kg), the Artes 600 8.8 lb (4 kg), the Artes 900 13.2 lb (6 kg) and the Artes 1200 17.6 lb (8 kg).

Is every alabaster piece the same?

No. Alabaster is natural stone, so the veining and tone vary from piece to piece.

How do I clean it?

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If a mark remains on the metal or the alabaster, use a slightly damp lint-free cloth, then dry it with a soft dry one. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners.
