Acropolis Table Lamp by CTO Lighting

Acropolis is a table lamp with a solid alabaster shade, chiselled by hand, on a stone base, made by CTO Lighting of London. It is 9.8 in across and 18.9 in tall.

The alabaster has natural veining, so every lamp is different: some are almost white and some have grey veins.

The Design Story

CTO's artisan partners create the linear effect of Acropolis by chiselling directly into the surface of the alabaster. The design is balanced and contemporary, and the solid stone shade glows in a mystical way. CTO calls it simple and refined, and says it works alone or with other CTO Lighting collections.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

Artisans chisel the vertical lines into the alabaster by hand, which adds texture to the surface. The stone shade is solid, so it is heavy and keeps its form. CTO's team assembles each lamp.

Alabaster. The veining of alabaster is unique, so no two lamps are the same. Some are almost white, and others have grey veining. When lit, the stone glows from within.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V version takes one E26 bulb, 25W maximum or a 2.3W LED at 2700K, and needs a dimmable bulb to use the inline dimmer on the 78.7 in black cord. The lamp weighs 19.8 lb, so set it on a solid surface. It is IP20 for dry indoor rooms. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Skip detergents and abrasives, and keep water off the stone.

Yes. It has an inline dimmer on the cord, and it needs a dimmable bulb.
