MoM Wall Sconce by Penta

MoM in its wall version is a matt borosilicate glass shade on a slim metal arm, designed in 2016 for Penta by Umberto Asnago and inspired by Venetian Murano vases.

It comes in 2 shapes (Slim and Fatty), with a matt gold or matt black metal structure and 7 matt glass colors: white, blue avio, black, powder pink, sand, sage green and mustard.

The Design Story

The wall MoM brings the same soft, opaque glass as the pendants to the wall. Penta says the arm can be directed up or down, so the glass shade can face the ceiling or the floor, and the matt gold or matt black metal frames the glass like the mount of a vase. It is made by hand in Brianza, Italy.

The Story

Penta works in borosilicate glass, the same family of glass used for laboratory ware. It is resistant to thermal shock, expands only about one third as much as ordinary soda-lime glass, withstands temperatures of about 500°C (932°F) and stands up well to chemicals. Each piece is shaped by hand with burners, which is why no two shades are exactly alike.

The Designer

Umberto Asnago has given his working life to design and planning. After holding important positions at Giorgetti, he committed himself fully to design in 2006 and became one of Penta’s historic names. With his long experience and refined creative toolbox, he has created many of the iconic collections in the Penta catalog.
