MoM is a pendant in matt borosilicate glass, designed in 2016 for Penta by Umberto Asnago and inspired by the Venetian tradition of Murano glass vases.
It comes in 5 shapes (Low, Tall, Slim, Fatty and Little) and 7 matt glass colors: white, blue avio, black, powder pink, sand, sage green and mustard.
The Design Story
Penta describes MoM as a collection of lamps in five shapes, each one a nod to the vases of Venetian glassmaking. The opaque, matt finish gives each shade a soft, even glow, and the shapes read as a family when they are hung together at different heights. Each shade is made by hand in Brianza, Italy.
The Story
Penta works in borosilicate glass, the same family of glass used for laboratory ware. It is resistant to thermal shock, expands only about one third as much as ordinary soda-lime glass, withstands temperatures of about 500°C (932°F) and stands up well to chemicals. Each piece is shaped by hand with burners, which is why no two shades are exactly alike.
The Designer
Umberto Asnago has given his working life to design and planning. After holding important positions at Giorgetti, he committed himself fully to design in 2006 and became one of Penta’s historic names. With his long experience and refined creative toolbox, he has created many of the iconic collections in the Penta catalog.

How It Was Made
Penta designs and builds its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy, and backs them with a 2-year manufacturer guarantee from the Auralis Group. MoM’s shades are borosilicate glass in a matt finish, available in seven colors. The canopy is a separate item, offered by Penta in white, black or titanium varnished metal.

Why You’ll Love It
Five shapes let you build a composition from one family: the wide Low at 15 in, the tall and slim shades at 15.7 and 12.6 in high, and the small Fatty and Little for tighter groups. Bulb not included: Low, Tall and Slim take one 60W E26 bulb; Fatty and Little take one 25W E12 bulb. The hanging length is about 159 to 165 in depending on the shape, which leaves room for tall ceilings and stairwells. MoM is UL rated.
