Lit Pendant Light by Penta

Lit is a minimal glass tube pendant that changes with the light, designed in 2019 for Penta by Umberto Asnago.

It comes in 3 sizes (Small, Medium and Large) and 6 mirrored glass colors: orange, blue, black, gold, violet and bronze.

The Design Story

With the lamp off, Lit looks like a suspended glass sculpture: an elegant, minimal tube with shimmering reflections on its mirrored surface. When it is lit, Penta says it reveals a bright, warm and gentle soul. It is a mutable object that changes with the light.

The Story

Penta works in borosilicate glass, the same family of glass used for laboratory ware. It is resistant to thermal shock, expands only about one third as much as ordinary soda-lime glass, withstands temperatures of about 500°C (932°F) and stands up well to chemicals. Each piece is shaped by hand with burners, which is why no two shades are exactly alike.

The Designer

Umberto Asnago has given his working life to design and planning. After holding important positions at Giorgetti, he committed himself fully to design in 2006 and became one of Penta’s historic names. With his long experience and refined creative toolbox, he has created many of the iconic collections in the Penta catalog.

How It Was Made

Penta designs and builds its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy, and backs them with a 2-year manufacturer guarantee from the Auralis Group. Lit has a metal structure and an outer borosilicate glass shade with a mirroring finish in six colors.

Made for Real Life

Lit uses standard bulbs, which are not included. The Small takes an E12 bulb up to 25W, except in black and bronze where it takes an E26 bulb up to 60W; the Medium and Large take an E26 bulb up to 60W. Lit is UL rated for indoor use.
