Iconica Pendant Light by Penta

Iconica is a slim pendant made entirely of borosilicate glass, designed in 2025 for Penta by Sara Moroni. At first glance it is a rigorous mirrored cylinder, and then it reveals a small surprise: a cone of frosted glass inside.

It comes in 2 heights (Short and Tall) and 3 mirrored finishes: Gold, Bronze and Chrome, with a choice of 3000K or 2700K light.

The Design Story

Penta describes Iconica as a play between light and matter. The conical sculpture of frosted glass seems to multiply inside the tube, almost without end, and what you see changes with where you stand. Hung alone it is a quiet line of light, and hung in a group at different heights it becomes a cluster of reflections. Penta designs and makes its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy.

The Designer

Sara Moroni earned her master’s degree in Industrial Product Design, with a specialization in lighting, at the Politecnico di Milano in 2006. Her graduation thesis was supervised by the entrepreneur and architect Carlotta De Bevilacqua, now Vice President of Artemide. She set up her own studio in 2015 and works across product, furniture, interior, exhibit, lighting and communication design, and she also advises manufacturers and design studios on design, technical and strategic questions. Iconica is her 2025 design for Penta.

How It Was Made

Penta designs and builds its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy, and backs them with a 2-year manufacturer guarantee from the Auralis Group. Iconica is made of borosilicate glass, the glass used for laboratory ware. It expands only about a third as much as ordinary soda-lime glass when heated, so it handles heat well and withstands temperatures of about 500°C (932°F). It also resists chemicals, and Penta’s glassmakers work it by hand with powerful burners. The light source is an integrated 7W LED.
