Altura Pendant Light by Penta

Altura is a pendant with a conical aluminium shade and a clean, minimal structure, designed in 2019 for Penta by Valerio Sommella and Anonima Luci.

It comes in 3 matt finishes: White, Black and Bronze, with a choice of 3000K or 2700K light.

The Design Story

Penta designs and makes its lamps by hand in Brianza, Italy. For Altura, the simplicity of the structure and the cleanliness of the lines are combined with lightweight materials and sophisticated lighting technology, all contained in the conical diffuser that gives the family its look. Penta’s line for Altura is “The horizon folds into perfect equilibrium.” The family also includes a floor lamp inspired by fishing rods.

Why You’ll Love It

The conical shade is only 15.7 in (40 cm) across and 7.9 in (20 cm) tall, so it works as a single accent or as a row over a table or counter. The integrated 14W LED has a CRI of 90 and puts out 1,180 lumens, enough to light a surface from a good height, and the long suspension, 80.7 in (205 cm) in all, gives plenty of room to set the drop you want. Matt white, black and bronze keep the shade quiet and architectural.

Made for Real Life

The LED is built in, so there is no bulb to buy or change, and the shade weighs just 2.2 lb (1 kg). Penta supplies the canopy as a separate item: its type C canopy is listed for Altura in a dimmable version that works with 0-10V or phase-cut dimmers (120V), and the 110V installation sheet is linked above. Please confirm the canopy with us before you order.

Questions We Hear Most

How big is the Altura pendant?

The shade is 15.7 in (40 cm) wide and 7.9 in (20 cm) high. The suspension is 80.7 in (205 cm) long in total, so the drop is easy to set for most ceilings.

Should I choose 3000K or 2700K for Altura?

Both are warm white and both put out 1,180 lumens in Penta’s item data. 3000K is a slightly clearer light for kitchens and work areas; 2700K is softer and more golden for dining rooms and bedrooms.

Can Altura be dimmed?

Dimming comes from the canopy. Penta lists a type C canopy for Altura in a dimmable version that works with 0-10V or phase-cut dimmers at 120V. The canopy is a separate item, so please confirm it with us before you order.

Does the price include the canopy?

No. Penta lists the canopy as a separate item, so please ask us to confirm the right canopy for your ceiling and dimming before you order.

Can I replace the bulb in an Altura pendant?

The 14W LED is integrated into the lamp, so there is no bulb to buy or match.

Is there a matching Altura floor lamp?

Yes. Altura also comes as a floor lamp with the same conical shade, in matt black. It has its own page on LoftModern.

Who designed the Altura pendant?

Altura was designed in 2019 for Penta by Valerio Sommella with the lighting design studio Anonima Luci.

What guarantee does Penta give on Altura?

Penta’s products carry a 2-year manufacturer guarantee from the Auralis Group. Penta also publishes a request form to extend the guarantee from 2 to 5 years; the guarantee PDF is linked above.

Is Altura made in Italy?
