Raised among artists and engineers in Venezuela, Pablo Pardo builds lights that are sparse, useful and quietly clever. He opened his San Francisco studio in 1993 and still leads it; his work has collected honors from ICFF, NeoCon, Interior Design, Red Dot and the German Design Award, and a piece of his sits in the SFMOMA collection. The Pablo Studio, the brand’s in-house team in San Francisco, engineered and refined it.

The Design Story

Pablo Pardo founded Pablo Designs in San Francisco in 1993 on the belief that the right light can transform any environment. Luci comes from the Pablo Studio, the company’s small team of makers and inventors, and it distills that belief into one object: a solid machined-aluminum column with a disc of light on top that you can carry anywhere. Pablo calls it the future of illumination, a portable lamp with the tactile quality of jewelry and the dim-to-warm glow of candlelight.

It charges through a USB-C port in the base in about six hours, with the cable in the box. Three preset levels and full-range dimming live under one touch on top of the shade. Wipe it with a soft cloth, keep the charge port closed outside, and it will look new for years.

Up to 180 hours at the lowest setting and around 18 at full brightness, then about six hours on its USB-C cable to refill.

Is Luci’s light really like candlelight?

Close to it: as you dim, the color temperature drops from 2700K to 2200K, the warm amber of a flame, without any flicker or smoke.

Can Luci live on a patio table?

Yes, it is IP54 rated for dust and splashing water, so evening dinners outside are what it was made for.

How does Luci feel compared with plastic cordless lamps?

Completely different: the body is solid machined aluminum with anodized machine-trace finishes, so it has real weight and a jewelry-like touch.
