The Design Story

Sean Lavin has designed more of Visual Comfort’s Modern Collection than anyone, and Belterra is one of his most poetic pieces. He started from the lotus flower and translated each petal into a flat LED light guide, so the light comes from the shape itself rather than from a bulb hidden inside it.

The frame is kept almost invisible. In the day you see a graceful outline; at night the petals fill with soft, even light, and the contrast between those two moods is the whole point.

The LED petals give a generous, even glow with 90 CRI color, so food, art and skin look natural underneath. Yes. Unlit, the slim frame reads like a line drawing against the ceiling; lit, the petals glow evenly. That contrast is part of its design.

There are no bulbs at all. The light comes from integrated LED modules inside the petals, which arrive installed.

Will the Belterra 38 work on a covered terrace?

It will. Visual Comfort rates it for damp interiors and outdoor spaces under cover, so a loggia or covered patio is fine; just keep it out of direct rain.
