Bombay Optic Globe Semi-Flush by Besa — a hand-blown globe with an optic pattern inside that throws rings of light across the ceiling.
Rings of lightSmoke or clear globeFilament on showBlack or satin nickelDamp location
Smoke or clear, black or satin nickel, with a filament lamp glowing at its heart. Near-ceiling, not on it.
The Design Story
Bombay is a Besa globe with a circular optical pattern blown into the interior of the glass. The light playing through those accents lands as rings on the ceiling and walls, and the lamp filament stays faintly visible, so the fixture feels alive rather than merely bright. Besa’s signature is the glass. American designers work with European craftsmen, every shade is made by hand, and each one is inspected in Ohio before it leaves the factory, so the small variations you see are the mark of a handmade piece, not a flaw.
Why You’ll Love It
It is the ceiling light people look up at. The globe is 9.8 inches across and 8.4 inches high, about 9.4 inches of drop on a 5-inch canopy, and it suits entries, hallways, dining nooks, bedrooms and bathrooms. Glass: Smoke or Clear. Finish: Black or Satin Nickel.
Made for Real Life
Choose a classic 60W A19 bulb or the LED version with an 8W filament lamp included (800 lumens at 3000K, CRI 90+, dimmable, rated 25,000 hours). It is damp rated, so a steamy bathroom is fine. Pairs well with Bombay cord pendant, Niles 10 bubble glass semi-flush, Belu ribbed drum.

Where It Shines
Entries and hallways where a plain dome would be a missed chance, dining nooks, bedrooms and bathrooms; the Smoke version is a natural for darker, moodier rooms.
Questions We Hear Most
How much does the Bombay hang down?
About 9.4 inches in all: a 5-inch canopy with the 8.4-inch-tall globe below it, so it reads as a short pendant rather than a flush mount.
What does the Bombay optic pattern do?
The pattern is blown into the inside of the globe. When the lamp is on, the light bends through it and lands as soft rings on the ceiling and nearby walls.
Which lamp looks best in the Bombay?
A filament-style lamp, because the filament is faintly visible through the glass. The LED version ships with an 8W LED filament lamp that is dimmable and rated 25,000 hours.
Can the Bombay handle a steamy bathroom?
Yes. It is damp rated for indoor rooms, so bathroom and laundry ceilings are fine; it is not meant for outdoor porches or spots that get sprayed directly.
Is the Bombay Smoke glass dark when the light is off?
Yes: it reads as a smoky grey sphere by day and glows warm amber-grey at night. Clear stays bright and crisp either way.
What does the Bombay need for installation?
A standard 4-inch octagonal ceiling box and an electrician: it is hardwired, not plug-in. The spec sheet and install guide are linked above.

Why We Love It
