Yolk is a wall lamp with an opal glass center inside a curved clear glass shell, designed by Angeletti & Ruzza for Oluce in 2014.
It comes in one finish: transparent and opaline glass with a chrome-plated metal reflector.
The Design Story
Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, worked with the design duo Angeletti & Ruzza, who play lightly on the idea of two. Yolk pairs two materials, metal and glass, that reflect and diffuse the light. A central diffuser of acid-etched opal glass sits in front of a chrome-plated reflector, and a curved clear glass shell wraps around it.
The Story
The name evokes the egg, the simplest object made of two materials, which the designers treat as a symbol of a creative duo’s power to generate ideas. Yolk dates from 2014 and gives diffused and reflected light on a wall.
The Designers
Silvana Angeletti (born in Rieti, 1969) and Daniele Ruzza (born in Rome, 1967) both studied industrial design at ISIA in Rome and founded their studio, angeletti ruzza design. Their clients include Teuco, Flaminia, Guzzini, Nemo, Poltrona Frau and Oluce. The studio has received a Compasso d’Oro mention, a Red Dot Award, and entries in the ADI Design Index.
“YOLK is a project designed by Angeletti&Ruzza who ironically and light-heartedly play on the duo concept”

How It Was Made
The center of Yolk is a diffuser in acid-etched opal blown glass. Around it is an outer shade in curved clear glass, and behind it is a chrome-plated metal reflector. Oluce makes the lamp in Italy.

Why You’ll Love It
Yolk looks like a small piece of sculpture even when it is off, and when it is on the opal glass glows softly inside its clear shell. It suits a bedside, a hallway or a bathroom mirror, and it works alone or as a pair.
Made for Real Life
The lamp takes one G9 bulb up to 60W. Oluce notes that LED bulbs are compatible. It is a wall lamp and should be installed by a qualified electrician. Wipe the glass with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth and avoid abrasive or solvent cleaners.
