The Design Story

Woodwind turns solid wood into motion: curved blades rotate around a center housing in four sizes, from a 52 inch hugger to an 80 inch span. Finish pairings include Natural Aged Brass with white wood, Satin Nickel with greywood, Black with walnut and Charcoal Bronze with driftwood, plus damp-rated weathered white and greywood versions. An LED light kit is included, with a cover plate if you would rather go without.

Which size Woodwind fan fits my room?

The 52 in span suits rooms of about 144 to 225 sq ft or a little more, such as most bedrooms, kitchens and dining rooms. The 72 in span suits large rooms over 400 sq ft, such as great rooms, open-plan living spaces and big covered patios. The 80 in span suits large rooms over 400 sq ft, such as great rooms, open-plan living spaces and big covered patios.

Will it work with my ceiling height?

The hugger version mounts close to the ceiling for rooms of about 8 ft; the downrod version suits 9 ft and higher. On a standard 9 ft ceiling the fan hangs on its short rod; on taller ceilings, add a longer downrod so the blades sit about 8 to 9 ft above the floor. Maxim downrods are sold separately. The blades sit 14.5 in (36.8 cm) below the ceiling on the standard mount.

How do I control it?

It comes with a remote or a wall control.

Does it have a light?

Yes, an LED light is built in. It dims (triac or elv). There are no bulbs to change on the integrated LED versions.

Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?

That depends on the version: dry rated (52 in, Downrod); damp rated (52 in, Hugger); dry rated (72 in, Downrod); damp rated (80 in, Downrod). Wet rated can take direct rain; damp rated belongs under a roof; dry rated is for indoors.
