Torres Pendant Light by CTO Lighting

Torres is a pendant with a funnelled shade, made by CTO Lighting of London. It comes in a short version, 7.9 in across and 8.1 in high, and a tall version at 27.6 in high, and it casts a radiant light downward.

It comes in 5 finishes: Antique Bronze, Bronze and Polished Nickel, plus Antique Bronze and Bronze with a honed alabaster shade, and 2 canopies: a ceiling plate or a ceiling rose.

The Design Story

Torres is a funnelled shade on a slim, solid body, and CTO describes its conical shape as reminiscent of ancient towers. The shade comes in polished nickel, bronze or honed alabaster, so the same shape reads as architectural in metal and softer in stone.

The Story of CTO Lighting

Chris and Clare Turner founded CTO Lighting in London in 1998 on one principle: design lights of uncompromising quality, using only the finest materials and working with elite British craftsmen. Chris is an engineer who designs and builds with meticulous detail, and Clare brings the eye of fashion. Together they built a name for understated luxury in hand-finished brass, mouth-blown glass and artisan-cut stone, and the collection has gone on to light The Savoy, The Dorchester, St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and Chiltern Firehouse.

How It Was Made

CTO assembles every light to order in England. The body and funnelled shade are metal, finished in antique bronze, bronze or polished nickel, and the alabaster versions carry a shade of honed alabaster, cut from natural stone, on a bronze body.

The Finishes

Antique Bronze. Rich, deep tones with a natural patina. Each fixture shows the character of the material and the hand of the British artisans who finish it.

Bronze. Deep, rich color and a robust build bring a touch of historical weight to a modern room, with a warm, inviting glow.

Polished Nickel. A bright, mirror-like silvery finish that reflects the light and colors around it. Each piece is made by skilled British artisans.

Honed Alabaster. Every piece is cut from natural stone, prized for its soft, diffused light. The veining occurs naturally, so no two are alike, from almost white to grey-veined.

Made for Real Life

The 110-130V version has a standard trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmable circuit, and takes a dimmable bulb: one G9 LED of up to 4.5W under the alabaster shade, or one GU10 LED of up to 9.6W under the metal shade, both at 2700K. Bulbs are not supplied. A 1000 mm (39.4 in) adjustable drop rod is supplied. Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp cloth for marks. Skip detergents and abrasives.

CTO lists the short Torres Pendant at 7.9 in across and 8.1 in high (200 x 205 mm) and the tall at 7.9 in across and 27.6 in high (200 x 700 mm). Both come with a 39.4 in (1000 mm) drop rod, 0.5 in (12.7 mm) thick and adjustable on site. The minimum overall drop depends on the canopy, as shown below.

Questions We Hear Most

Is Torres Pendant dimmable?

Yes. CTO lists the 110-130V version as dimmable on a trailing-edge (phase-cut) dimmer, so use a dimmable bulb. DALI is listed only for 220-240V.

What do Short and Tall mean?

Both have the same 7.9 in (200 mm) funnel. The Short body is 8.1 in (205 mm) high and the Tall is 27.6 in (700 mm) high, which gives a long, slim line. The Tall also weighs more, at 13.2 lb against 6.6 lb.

How far does it hang?

It comes with a 39.4 in (1000 mm) drop rod that you adjust on site. The minimum overall drop is 9.1 in (232 mm) for the Short with the plate and 9.8 in (250 mm) with the rose, and 28.4 in (722 mm) for the Tall with the plate and 29.3 in (745 mm) with the rose.

What is the difference between the ceiling plate and the ceiling rose?

The plate is a flat round plate, 4.5 in (114 mm) across, and the rose is a round canopy, 4.6 in (116 mm) across and 1.0 in (25 mm) deep. The rose adds a little to the minimum drop.

What bulb does it take?

The alabaster versions take one G9 LED of up to 4.5W. The metal versions take one GU10 LED of up to 9.6W. Both are 2700K, and CTO does not supply the bulbs.

Is every alabaster piece the same?

No. Alabaster is natural stone, so the veining and tone vary from piece to piece.

How do I clean it?

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and use a slightly damp lint-free cloth for marks. CTO advises against detergents and abrasive cleaners on the metal and the alabaster.
