The Design Story

The design of the Tolomeo is characterized by clean and minimalist lines, with a structure made of aluminum. This material gives the lamp not only a modern and sophisticated look but also remarkable lightness and robustness. The lamp head, adjustable in all directions, is equipped with a stamped aluminum reflector that ensures uniform light distribution, making it ideal for various lighting needs. One of the distinctive elements of the Tolomeo is its articulated arm system.

Meet the Designers

Michele De Lucchi (born 1951 in Ferrara) is an Italian architect and designer and was a member of the Memphis group in the 1980s. With Giancarlo Fassina he designed the Tolomeo in 1987, which won the Compasso d'Oro in 1989 and grew into a whole family, from Micro to Mega.

Giancarlo Fassina is an Italian designer and a longtime Artemide collaborator. His technical precision was key to the Tolomeo, which he co-designed with Michele De Lucchi in 1987.

Famous on Screen

Look closely at M's desk in the James Bond film Skyfall (2012): that is a Tolomeo Basculante table lamp. Few lamps say "serious work happens here" quite like a Tolomeo.
