The Design Story
Thanks to the intelligence and elegance with which it combines these elements, Tizio has become one of the icons not only of Artemide’s collection, but also of Italian design. Ernesto Gismondi, 2014
— Artemide
"When we presented it, there was nothing like it on the market, it was revolutionary. Tizio is beautiful in any different position, it is a harmonious object in all its parts, you move it with one hand and it is always extremely precise.
Meet the Designer
Richard Sapper (1932–2015) was a German designer who spent most of his career in Milan. He created the Tizio for Artemide in 1972, and his other landmark designs include the IBM ThinkPad and the 9091 whistling kettle for Alessi. His gift was turning hard engineering problems into simple, approachable objects.
A Movie Star Since 1979
Spot it in Moonraker (1979), 9½ Weeks (1986) and No Time To Die (2021), where a black Tizio 50 lights Bond's Jamaican villa. Off screen, the Tizio is part of the permanent collections at MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

If you only ever buy one "forever" desk lamp, make it this one. The Tizio balances on counterweights, glides into place with one finger and looks as sharp today as it did in 1972.
Perfect for home offices, studios, reading corners and bedside tables; anywhere you want to aim light exactly where you work.
Maybe not for bathrooms, showers, covered porches or outdoor spaces: it is rated IP20 for dry indoor locations.
Our pick: Black, LED 8W · 3000K, for built-in LED, no bulbs needed and a warm-but-clear 3000K glow. That version ships from Artemide in 2–4 weeks. In a hurry? Quick Ship options leave Artemide in 3–5 business days.
