Superluna is an LED floor lamp with two rotating metal hemispheres on a slim black stem, designed by Victor Vasilev for Oluce in 2015.

The Design Story
Oluce, founded in Milan in 1945, built Superluna around the LED itself. The floor version hides the electrical components in a slender metal stem and opens the light source out along that stem, in line with the semi-spherical shades. Each shade rotates on its own axis and reflects the light, so the lamp gives a soft, indirect and reflected glow. It stands tall in a room yet stays light and graphic.
The Story
Superluna was Victor Vasilev’s debut project with Oluce. It began as a reflection on the work of Vico Magistretti and his gift for iconic shapes that bring out the potential of the light source. With LED light making it possible to reinvent a luminaire from its source, Vasilev drew a family of lamps in floor, table and wall versions. The turning hemispheres echo the perpetual movement of celestial bodies around a small luminous core. The family won the German Design Award in 2018.
The Designer
Victor Vasilev was born in 1974 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and moved with his family to Israel at 15. He studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, then settled in Milan and opened his own practice in 2004. His work is driven by a steady search for clarity in form and material. Besides Oluce he has designed for Boffi, Living Divani, MDF Italia, Antrax and Falper.

How It Was Made
Superluna is made of metal. A slim metal stem carries two LED sources and conceals the wiring, and the two semi-spherical shades turn on their own axes in front of the light. Oluce makes the lamp in Italy.

Made for Real Life
Two built-in LEDs (5.5W and 6.5W) give warm 3000K light at 1150 lumens with a CRI above 85. There is no bulb to change. The lamp is UL listed for the US and works with a standard on/off switch; it is not dimmable. Wipe the metal with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive or solvent cleaners.
