The Design Story
Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara drew Maija in 1955, inspired by the light of Baltic towns, where street lamps are few and the warm glow of homes spills out onto the street. Its name comes from Maya the Bee. Santa & Cole calls it the only household lamp Tapiovaara ever designed.
Why You’ll Love It
Light glows between the discs, soft and even, so the lamp is as beautiful lit as unlit. A brass structure and a white glass diffuser sit inside, and the LED is built in at a warm 2700K with CRI 90. It dims on a 1-10V dimmer.
Made for Real Life
The shade is 30 cm across and 28 cm tall (11.8 × 11.0 inches) and hangs up to 330 cm (129.9 inches) on a 3 m cable from a junction-box canopy. The dimmer is sold separately. UL-1598 and UL-8750 listed for dry, indoor locations. Wipe with a soft, smooth cloth; skip ammonia, solvents and abrasive cleaners (Santa & Cole’s care advice).
