Sanchi X-Large Two Tier Chandelier by Sean Lavin for Visual Comfort

The Sanchi X-Large Two Tier Chandelier by Sean Lavin is built from open ribbon baskets of steel or brass, hung on rigid stems from a slim round canopy, with integrated LED modules inside. Two open ribbon baskets sit in a low, wide silhouette, 42 inches across and only 19.5 inches tall. It comes in Aged Iron or Polished Antique Brass.

The Design Story

Sean Lavin built the Sanchi series from open ribbon baskets that read like woven bowls in the air. The X-Large lays the two baskets out wide and shallow, so it spreads like a canopy of ribbon over a table instead of reaching down into the room. The light sits inside the tiers, and the ribbons throw soft stripes across the ceiling.

Why You'll Love It

Sanchi X-Large Two Tier is made for rooms where you want width without height: a dining table, a kitchen island, a bedroom or an entry with a ceiling of eight or nine feet. It is 42 inches across but only 19.5 inches tall, and the six stems let you hang it from 29.8 to 83.8 inches. The LED modules give a soft 2700K glow at 90 CRI, and it dims on ELV, Triac and 0-10V dimmers.

Built for Damp Locations

Sanchi X-Large Two Tier Chandelier is ETL listed, and Visual Comfort lists it for indoor damp locations and outdoor spaces under cover, such as a covered porch or an open-air pavilion. The baskets are steel or brass and the LED modules are integrated, so there are no bulbs to replace. The Polished Antique Brass finish carries a California Proposition 65 warning from Visual Comfort: it can expose you to chemicals including lead, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm (P65Warnings.ca.gov).

Where It Shines

Over a dining table, a kitchen island, a bedroom, an entry, a restaurant booth or a boutique.

Who This Is Not For

Sanchi X-Large Two Tier is 42 inches across, so it needs a table or room of matching scale. It weighs 55 lbs, so it needs a properly supported ceiling box. It is a decorative glow, so plan separate task lighting where you need it.

Questions We Hear Most

How big is the Sanchi X-Large Two Tier Chandelier?

At its widest, the basket is 42 inches across. The fixture is 19.5 inches tall and hangs from a canopy that is 4.9 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches deep.

How low or high can it hang?

Visual Comfort lists a minimum hanging height of 29.8 inches and a maximum of 83.8 inches. It ships with six rigid stems in a matching finish, four at 12 inches and two at 6 inches, so you can set the drop to suit the room.

Can it go on a sloped ceiling?

Yes. Visual Comfort lists it for sloped ceilings up to 22.5 degrees.

How do I choose between Aged Iron and Polished Antique Brass?

Aged Iron is a dark, deep-toned finish that reads as charcoal against a light ceiling and fades into a dark one. Polished Antique Brass is warm and golden, and it picks up the glow of the LEDs. Pick the one that matches the metal in your room.

How much does it weigh and what support does it need?

It weighs 55 lbs, so it needs a ceiling structure rated for that load and a rod-mount canopy installed by a qualified electrician. Have your installer confirm the support before you order.

Can I use it outdoors?

Visual Comfort lists it for indoor damp locations and outdoor spaces under cover. It is not for fully exposed outdoor use.

Why We Love It
